How to Make Porn in Japan
What follows is some general advice and guidance to help you get started producing your own porn in Japan.  Please note this is written from the perspective of a guy shooting boy-girl scenes.

1. Produce an adult video in your home country first.
Have you ever shot porn before?  It's more complicated shooting outside of your home country's language and culture, particularly if you've never shot anything before.  If possible start by producing an adult video in your home country.  This way you can become familiar with how the adult industry in general functions.  Yes, there are cross-border differences, but there are also striking similarities.  It'll be much easier to first gain experience within your native context.

One of my very first porn shoots was in the USA, and I did it entirely for the experience.  I gained priceless knowledge that I could then apply to shooting abroad.

If you live in a country that criminalizes porn production (sad), then try producing porn in a country that shares in a language you already speak or a country that at least has a more streamlined and well-documented production process, like the USA or Hungary.  For example, let's say you're from Singapore, a country that sadly prohibits porn production.  But English (aka "Singlish") is widely spoken in Singapore, so that should at least facilitate shooting in an English-speaking country.

The idea here is that you gotta start somewhere, so better to start at home...or at least somewhere similar to "home." (e.g. a shared language, etc.)

2. Learn Japanese.
If you speak Japanese, then it shouldn't be too difficult for you to find models on your own and get the wheels turning for yourself.  Do Internet research and connect with amateurs via social networking sites like Twitter, etc.  Find and contact Japan's many adult modeling agencies.  It's not extremely different from finding talent and shooting porn in the USA.  The key difference is the language.  You're obviously going to need Japanese.

I generally hear from two camps of people interested in shooting adult content in Japan--people outside Japan with no Japanese language skills and people in Japan with various levels of Japanese ability.  The Japanese speakers already have the force--the key skill necessary to make something happen.

If you don't speak Japanese, then I suggest learning it and/or finding trusted translators and interpreters to assist you.

3. Educate yourself.
Do Internet research and educate yourself.  Look at how other successful shooters are creating and producing.  This is cheap and easy to do, and can save you from reinventing the wheel.  In the case of shooting in Japan, I suggest checking out the FC2 Adult Content Market.  In the same vein as sites like Manyvids and Modelhub, this is where most all the amateur and semi-pro Japanese porn shooters sell their content.

Look at the successful ones and note what they're doing:
- What kind of equipment are they shooting with?  Many seem to be using simple handicams.
- Where are they shooting?  Their apartment?  In a hotel?  At a studio?  Outside?  Love hotels seem to be a popular shooting venue in Japan.  Personally, I'm not a big fan of love hotels, but they do have advantages.
- How are they marketing and selling their content?  What platforms are they using?

This doesn't mean you must copy them.  But you can freely determine what's working and what's not by looking at how others are producing their content.

4. Come to Japan.
This seems stupidly obvious, but you'd be surprised how many people I hear from that want to make porn in Japan, but have never even visited the country.  If you want to make porn in Japan, then someday you're going to have to actually travel to Japan.  Get your ass over there!

5. Accept that it's going to take money and effort.
Few people want to spend the money and expend the effort it takes to shoot their own adult content.  Believe it or not, there's actually a lot of work involved.  The adult video industry is a fun business, but it is a business nonetheless.  Like any business you're going to need start-up capital, especially if you need to hire pretty talent to star in your productions.  Add more if you don't speak Japanese and require the assistance of translators and interpreters.

You have to accept that you may have to save-up and throw some significant money at this to make it happen for you.  You likely realize this if you've already done step #1 and produced an adult video in your home country.
